1. Besakih Temple

Besakih temple is known as “Mother Temple”. This temple is perhaps the most well-known temple in Bali Island. Possessing more than 23 separate small shrines where worship many different gods, this religious edifice has existed for more than 100 years. Basakih temple is a sacred site for the Hindus living in Bali. 3. Tanah Lot Temple

 

Tanah Lot temple is located on an offshore rock so because of its particular location, it is also known as “Land in the Sea”. This is one of the seven famous temples on the coast of Bali captivating millions of domestic and foreign visitors annually. It is also a famous tourist attraction due to its cultural inside significance. It is possible to see Tanah Lot temple from anywhere in the series of the famous seven temples. Coming to this temple at low tide, travelers will have opportunity to walk on the water to visit the temple. Tirta Empul temple is one of the six key temples of the Balinese people. This temple is renowned for its scared spring having good benefits for the health. 5. Ulun Danu Bratan Temple

 

For farmers living in Bali Island, Ulun Danu Bratan temple is very sacred because this temple is built in order to worship the Goddess of rivers and lakes- Dewi Danu, who have ability to run the irrigation system throughout the area. The temple is located closely along the sacred Beratan lake so from the temple visitors can see the stunning river scenery around the temple. After Batur lake, Beratan lake is the second largest lake in Bali but it is the main reservoir supplying water to terraced paddies. Being aware of the important role of this lake, King Mengwi built Ulun Danu Temple in 1633 to worship Dewi Danu- the Godness of lakes and rivers.

6. Goa Lawah Temple

 

In the Indonesian, Goa Lawah means “Bat Cave”. Situated in the southeast of Bali, Goa Lawah temple was built in 1007 and it also plays a key role in the spiritual life of local people. The cave behind this temple is documented that it has a path leading to the famous Besakih temple, according to many records.

7. Taman Ayun Temple

 

Being a landmark of Mengwi village and located about 18 km from the center of Bali island, Taman Ayun temple is also named as “the Temple of the Green Park”. Surrounded by a solid moat, this is one of the most beautiful temples thanks to its elaborately carved wooden doors and the majestic towers covered with green trees. The dark color of palm leaves on the towers exalts its sacred and mysterious beauty.
